A proven conservative voice for Saint Joseph, Marshall & LaPorte Counties — fighting for your family, your community, and Hoosier values at the Statehouse.
A lifelong Michiana resident, Jake Teshka lives the values he legislates — faith, family, and community service.
Jake earned his B.A. in Political Science from St. Joseph's College and his Master of Public Affairs from IU South Bend. Before the Statehouse, he served South Bend's 5th District on the Common Council — then brought that ground-level experience to Indianapolis in 2021.
Today, Jake lives in North Liberty with his wife and two children. He works in business development, serves on various local nonprofit boards and attends The Vineyard Church in Mishawaka.
"I believe that public service is a noble calling - a way to use our God given gifts to serve our neighbors, protect individual liberty, and promote what is right and true. Stewarding our great Republic requires active participation and I am honored to have been called into the arena."
Recognizing the uniqueness of every Hoosier child, empowering parents with school choice, and ensuring students receive a world-class education free from political agendas.
Keeping money in the pockets of working families by reducing the tax burden, cutting wasteful spending, and making state government more accountable.
Delivering real results — millions secured for local projects including roads, parks, and other quality of life initiatives — because District 7 deserves a representative who brings tax dollars back home.
A steadfast defender of life at every stage. Jake is committed to protecting the unborn and supporting policies that value families and human dignity.
Your constitutional right to keep and bear arms is not negotiable. Jake will always stand against legislation that undermines law-abiding Hoosiers' right to self-defense.
Rural communities in northern Indiana deserve a champion. Jake fights for agriculture, rural broadband, local businesses, and our way of life.
District 7 spans portions of Saint Joseph, Marshall, and LaPorte Counties — a region of hard-working families, strong faith communities, and proud Hoosier heritage.
Since taking office in 2021, Jake has delivered real, tangible results for Hoosier families.
Jake authored HEA 1558 (2023) and was the House sponsor of SEA 1 (2024) which mandated Science of Reading instruction across the state, held teacher prep programs accountable for ensuring teachers are properly trained in literacy, and delivered significant support to schools to supplement their literacy work. As a result, 2025 saw the single largest increase in IREAD scores in state history and Indiana jumped to 6th in the nation in both 4th and 8th grade reading.
EducationAs the author of HEA 1343 (2023), HB 1038 (2024), and House sponsor of SEA 34 (2024), Jake has fought to ensure that state government is not standing between Hoosier workers and their right to earn a good living. He has also promoted employee ownership as a way to save the small businesses that are the lifeblood of our communities and provide long term benefit to employees.
Economic FreedomWhether it is protecting kids from Big Tech (SB 199 [2026]), curbing woke ideology in schools (HB 1346 [2023]), ensuring age verification on adult websites (HB 1063 [2024]), or protecting reasonable childhood independence (HEA 1035 [2026]), Jake has tirelessly advocated for bolstering the safety of Hoosier kids and safeguarding their innocence.
Reclaiming ChildhoodAs Chairman of the House Financial Institutions Committee, Jake has been involved in ensuring that taxpayer dollars are not being used in ways that harm Hoosiers. Through direct legislation (HEA 1084 [2024], HEA 1008 [2023]) and behind the scenes work, he has fought to uphold the state's laws that forbid investment in companies owned by foreign adversaries, those who push ideological agendas over ROI, and Big Banks that undermine our constitutional rights.
Fiscal Responsibility"I've gotten to know Jake during his time in office and am grateful for his approach to service. He is a man of faith and brings that perspective to the job. Even if we disagree on policy, I can count on him doing so with integrity."
"Jake always answers the phone when I call and takes the time to answer my questions. He's someone who shows up, rolls up their sleeves and actually delivers for our area. I'm proud to support him."
"Unlike some politicians, Jake makes it a point to be involved in our community. It's always great seeing him and his family out engaging with the people he serves."
The 2026 primary is May 5th, and the general election is November 3rd. Your support — in any form — makes a real difference for District 7.
